Homogenization is the process of modifying the physical properties of a substance (liquid or mixture) by creating emulsions (liquid in a liquid suspension) or dispersions (solid in a liquid suspension). The process reduces the particle size of one component and disperses them evenly throughout the resultant mixture.
To increase fluid velocity, a high-pressure pump forces the liquid through a narrow orifice. After the velocity is increased, the liquid hits an impact surface causing severe turbulence, implosion, impingement, cavitation and shear forces for optimal emulsion and/or dispersion.
